well at last they have some pre-production models to look at ..about 6 or more motoring magazine have shown these two vehiclesin the same location but not allowed to drive them, I like the look of it but it’s not the bare bones vehicle it was...will it still appeal to farmers, military and others ?

Toyota Reading had one on their main stand outside the main entrance, only for a few days.
Not sure how this would help their Toyota sales.
It had no details or tickets on it, it was just sitting there. I do like this 3 door option.

Like Bob said , it's a serious move on from the old defender. I reckon it's too much of move on.
Far too sophisticated for a rattly off road box.
More of another LR Chelsea tractor.
But... 300mm ground clearance , and 900mm wading depth.
That's serious figures.
Looks great though... but at £40k .. wow.

It ain´t the agricultural beast that the original was - dire though the brute was, at least it was reasonably cheap. The new one may as well have a Disco badge on it as it appears to be just another SUV-alike. And at least one of the reviews I´ve read reckons it sits in the old Freelander niche and consequently it´ll take sales from the Disco Sport. And starting price of 40K for the poverty version? JLR must be bloody joking! Looks like sh*t as well, IMHO .

Can’t think of a new 4x4 that a farmer/ military might buy as a replacement for the old Defender ..guess the Unimog is the only one but at a horrendous cost, even the 4x4 double cab pick-up trucks are posh and up market now .

I'm still a quiet fan of the '90 Bob, but I wouldn't touch one of these for the sort of work my own 90 did. I Can't imagine who JLR hope to sell it to either - hope that they have done some market research

From what I can see of the current market vehicles only the Suzuki Jimmy has stuck to its original format, not sure what market\customers LandRover are looking for with the new Defender that other models in the range don’t overlap on .

I'd have agree the only the Suzuki Jimny stil carries on the proper 4x4 workhorse ethos now even though they have obviously marked the Merc G wagon as the look to open up their audience. JLR seem to have got stuck in the one shape fits all scenario ......now we have discos that are the same as Range Rover ....and now Defenders, though the this new 90 seems to be a Range Rover front and Lada Riva rear!
As an ex squaddie we tested the old Defender ( formally know as series 1, 2,3 ) to destruction ..literally in many ways , but they could always be beaten back to shape , hence the workhorse title.....this can't fit that profile nor can a staggering £40 grand.
Struggle to see a market.

Oot where we live the Japanese trucks like Hi Lux and Mitsubishi are king. Plus lots of old shape defenders. Can’t see the farmers round us buying that hideous expensive daft bloody thing..

I think the bobbie basic 3 door on steel wheels looks great. Not a mad fan of spare wheels hanging off the back door though. Maybe that's just me.
Is there really that many farmers to worry about and the military will buy what they're told to buy - rest of the world will lap them up.
In the grand scheme of things the old defender wasn't exactly a best seller. JLR are in business to make money so naturally they'll want to appeal to a larger market with every model.
Go to Toyota and they'll charge you nigh on 40k for a full spec rav - and that is one of the worst looking vehicles currently on sale!!

Though I now have a baling twine belt chew straw and say AAARRRGGHHHHH a lot.... Trust me in the Shires the old style Defender is an institution all on its own. It’s always been a tough no nonsense rugged favourite of the farmers and always would have been. Of course LR are out to make money but this awful thing misses the market by miles

I wonder if they have just introduced it to try and get money from people who like the badge but can’t quite afford a top spec. real size Range Rover. Rather like Mercedes did with their A and B class cars, BMW with their 1 series and Porsche with their Boxster.
