I would be willing to put a fairly decent bet on the Championship being decided by the end of this Race.
Lewis Hamilton needs to finish no better than 7th to guarantee the WDC - This year apart from the one retirement in Austria, his lowest finish has been 4th. Even if Lewis finishes below 7th, Sebastian Vettel would still need to win the race to keep his mathematical chances alive.
It is clear this year that there are 3 teams in the top class - Mercedes, Ferrari & Red Bull - and the rest are nowhere in comparision. so even if all 6 cars in the top tier had penalties which put them to the back 6 places of the grid at the start, they would still finish in the top 6 (so Lewis Hamilton could have to have a new engine and gearbox say and it still wouldn't make any difference to his WDC wrapup chances in Mexico)

Let's have a reverse grid ala F1 stock car grid, not a fan of Mexico track, seems a bit Mickey Mouse to me, I'm sure Liberty are hoping Hamilton has a mechanical or crash to keep it going

It may be a bit artificial, but one way to even out the performances a little might be to take the system used in Touring Cars for a while (and maybe still?) - that of Performance Ballast. Top 10 cars get added ballast, dropping down from say 10kg to 1kg per position based on previous race results (the engineers seem to know exactly how each kilo of fuel seems to make in terms of lap times, so getting the right weight for the right impact should be fairly easy)

Mercedes are down on performance over the Friday practice ...wonder if it’s down to the high altitude? Although saying that it should affect all the teams 🤔 Max was unbeatable...well he was until the engine packed up 🙄🙄....no point having performance if you’ve not got reliability !

Yeah Baby! Well done to Lewis. The next two races should be good with little to play for it will be racing to get the best results.
The performance gap between Tier 1 (MB, RBR and Ferrari) and the rest is embarassing!

In the 'olden days' when there was a hell of a lot less money in F1 some years the F1 cars and F2 cars would race together -and I think occasionally were the same car! I wonder if there should be a "Non-manufacturer" Constructers Championship - and even Drivers one? - to make it more relevant to the smaller teams who haven't got a hope in hell of winning any more.

Be interesting to see if in the New Years Honours, There will be a "Sir Lewis Hamilton"?
Given that we have a Sir Bradly Wiggens and a Sir Chris Hoy and Sir Mo Farah amongst many other sporting Sirs and Dames, I did not really understand how this did no happen last year when he became the most successful British F1 Racing Driver (ahead of Sir Jackie Stewart), and if he doesn't become a GBE after a 5th Title, it would need some explanations IMO.

Wiggins, Hoy, Farah and several others earned there honours by successfully representing their country at the Olympic Games. While Lewis is most certainly British, in F1 he represents Lewis Hamilton (earning a not too small fortune in the process) and the Mercedes F1 team rather than his country. So, no knighthood earned and no further explanation needed IMHO. That is not to say that he isn't deserving of an honour and may well get one for "services to motor racing" in due course - after he has retired ... just as Sir Jackie Stewart did.
